Flames and Steel: The Chromatic War
The Grand Army of Doul
Throughout history many wars have been fought between nations, but no armies have remained more stalwart than those of The Grand Army of Doul. Much like the dwarves that it was almost entirely comprised of, the Grand Army of Doul rarely changed in overall population, usually numbering near 10,000 soldiers at all times. The Dwarven army was unlike others in one other important way. It held responsibility of acting as a police force.
While towns like the elven Halar and larger settlements like the human city of Varalon relied on a local force of town guardsmen, Doulish settlements of all sizes were policed by the Grand Army. While not quite to the level of martial law in most nations, the Doulish army nevertheless tended to only answer to the royal family of Doul. The Dwarven people trusted that individuals within the army would act out of honor that much of their society had been built upon and were rarely disappointed.
